New Olympus PEN Cameras Land on Indian Shores


Olympus, one of the leading camera manufacturers have launched their new line of PEN cameras, in India. At an event held in Mumbai, they showcased three new models - PEN E-P3, E-PL3 and the E-PM1. Two new lenses were also unveiled, one the Zuiko 45nm (f/1.8) and the second, the Zuiko Digital ED 12mm (f/2.0). A dedicated wireless flash unit for the cameras - the FL-300R was also announced. The new cameras fall under the micro four-third standard of cameras that some camera manufacturers have adopted.

The E-P3 has 12.3 MP sensor and supports full HD video recording capabilities. It has the ability to shoot photos in RAW, as well as JPG. Shutter speed ranges from 60 - 1/4000s and it has a burst shooting speed of 3 fps. The E-P3 camera kit will be the first to be launched sometime in mid-July. Prices will be Rs. 39,999 for the standard 14-42mm lens and Rs. 44,999 for the dual-lens kit which also includes the 40-150mm lens. The other two cameras, the E-PL3 and the E-PM1 will be available in stores in the month of September. Olympus is one of the brands that’s focusing on the new micro four third format cameras and less on the DSLR market in India, which is currently dominated by Nikon and Canon.
