Groupon's SoSasta.com Suffers a Data Breach

SoSasta.com, a fairly popular discount shopping website in India suffered a data breach, over the weekend. The users of the service were immediately notified by the site via email about the breach, and were asked to immediately change their passwords. SoSasta.com doesn’t store the credit card, debit card or net banking details of its customers on its database, owing to the legal regulations of the firm, thus sparing the users the anxiety caused by having their sensitive data stolen. The data base, in question, however, includes the e-mail addresses and passwords of over 300,000 users of the website.

The breach came to light when the Australian security consultant, Daniel Grzelak, from Risky.biz found the data belonging to SoSasta.com users on Google. He then called up Groupon, and informed the owner company about the data breach that had taken place. The site currently operates across 11 Indian cities, including - Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, Delhi/NCR, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Nagpur, Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru.
