HTC Flyer Will be Upgradable to Android Honeycomb

When the HTC Flyer tablet was announced, despite it boasting of the pretty cool ‘Scribe’ technology, a lot of people were skeptical about a couple of issues – those being the single core 1.5GHz processor, and the other being the lack of Android 3.0 Honeycomb. The Flyer announcement specified that it would be running the HTC Sense UI on top of Android Gingerbread 2.4, which was a bit strange because Google’s tablet-optimised Honeycomb was already doing the rounds by then. However, it now seems that the Flyer will indeed be upgradable to Android 3.0, which should ease quite a few worries. HTC confirmed this via a Tweet, saying “In case you weren't aware, we will be updating Flyer to Honeycomb shortly after launch”. Will be tasting Honeycomb Goodness While this definitely is good news, it does seem pretty strange because it contradicts a couple of tidbits that were perhaps mistaken as common knowledge earlier. Firstly, there was news doing the rounds that Honeycomb would be a dual-core exclusive OS – which would mean the Flyer would be incapable of running it – and the other being the statement that said tablets which released with versions of Android other than Honeycomb wouldn’t be upgradeable to 3.0. HTC are breaking both those ‘rules’ with this announcement, and while it certainly begs the question of why they wouldn’t release it with Honeycomb in the first place, all’s well that ends well, we suppose.
