Sprint to launch Kyocera Echo dual-screen smartphone on April 17


The February-announced Kyocera Echo, aka the "US' first dual-touchscreen smartphone", has received a release date - April 17. On that day it will be available in all Sprint retail channels and on Sprint.com, costing $200 with a new two-year service agreement.

"Kyocera Echo’s unique dual-screen, Simul-tasking capabilities allow customers to do things they have never before done on a wireless handset. We believe customers will really appreciate and leverage the dual-screen capabilities and are excited to partner with Kyocera to bring this innovation to Sprint customers."
The Kyocera Echo measures 115.0 x 56.5 x 17.2 mm and weights a (very noticeable) 193 grams but features two 3.5-inch (800 x 480) touchscreens connected via a 'pivot hinge' that can operate independently, side-by-side or combined as a 4.7-inch display. The smartphone also packs a 1GHz Qualcomm QSD 8650 chip, 1GB of memory, a microSD slot (an 8GB card is bundled), a 5 megapixel camera with flash that can record 720p video, 802.11 b/g WiFi, and Bluetooth 2.1. The OS pre-installed is Android 2.2.
